Overview
Our first state-of-UX benchmark of the UK's public EV charging apps, based on analysis of 4,209 public reviews across the leading charge point networks. Average app ratings sat at a middling 2.6 out of 5, and a Jobs-to-be-Done analysis found drivers consistently underserved in four areas: customer support, payments, checking charger status and locating a charger. This is the baseline our 2025 update revisits.
Key findings
Average weighted rating of 2.6 out of 5; the field ran from Instavolt at 4.6 to Blink and GeniePoint at 1.4.
Remove the top four apps and the average falls to 2 out of 5.
Four Jobs-to-be-Done are underserved: customer support, payments, checking charger status and locating a charger.
4,209 iOS and Android reviews analysed with a large language model; correct as of October 2023.
