UK public EV charging apps: State of UX 2025
Date
Scope
EV charging
Overview
Two years on from our 2023 baseline, we re-analysed the UK's public EV charging apps, drawing on close to 8,000 reviews across 15 charge point operators. The picture had worsened: the industry average fell from 2.6 to 2.1 out of 5, over half of all reviews were one star, and driver sentiment shifted from disappointed to angry as the market moved from early adopters to the mainstream. Regulation has moved the industry forward, but compliance is not the same as experience.

Key findings
Industry average down from 2.6 (2023) to 2.1; one-star reviews now account for 52% of the dataset.
The largest networks converge on the same poor score, pointing to a systemic problem rather than a few weak apps.
Payment satisfaction fell 19 points since 2023; charger-status accuracy is the lowest-scoring job in the study.
Close to 8,000 reviews across 15 charge point operators, analysed with a large language model and multi-layered human QA.
